ThousandPelts

This is one of my favorite projects that I've done recently, a story about a girl struggling to balance between what she thinks is right, and the traditions of her culture. The story is loosely based on the story of thousandfurs, or Allerleiraugh. A lot of time was spent working on the characters and putting them into moments that tell the visual story. The next few posts will be breakdowns of individual pieces as well as delving into thought process and story process.

Love

I did these last year based on the feeling of falling in love. The process was a mix of using ink, compositional cropping and layering digital paint and colors over the textures. It's a really intuitive process that taps into unconscious decision making. It's a really fun process that I enjoy to no end. I'll try to post the process eventually. Thanks for looking.

Tyrus Wong Studies

Did a few studies from the movie Bambi, which I think is one of the best uses of color, light and background design in animation. Tyrus Wong was the key background desinger on Bambi and his personal style influenced much of the film. I did these studies to practice lighting, composition and when to let the detail just go. It always surprises me how much love goes into every little detail of films, especially animation, where every line and shadow is meticulously thought out. The studies were all done in prisma and graphite and the color was added in photoshop.
