The Magician

A 4 hour pose. The model was really great and Bob Kato set up a great lighting scenario: Warm orange light from the bottom right and cool blue light from the top right. This inversion of warm shadows and cool light made me really concentrate on simplifying the head. Starting with darker tones it's much easier to build up the light and control the edges all the surfaces.

In retrospect the lighting and process is analogous to drawing on black canson with two colored pencils, similar to some of the old trans renderings Art Center Trans students used to do in the 60s. It's still done today but I saw a lot of truly great understanding of this at Art Centers Car Classic show about a month back.

Playful WIPs

Can't talk now, but I've got some thoughts that I'll share soon enough. In the meantime enjoy some experiments. Thanks for stopping by!
